Is this undermining your self-esteem? Deal with rejection is not easy for sure.
Last week’s blog post, talk about the most common mistake’s we make while job hunting. I recommend you check it out because you are probably making those mistakes if you are constantly ignored or rejected.
Today, I want to help you deal with rejection and give you some helpful tips if you are job hunting and you are being ignored or rejected all the time in your job applications or interviews.
I know, when you are job hunting, a lot of things come together. Firstly, you want to quit that job that has you frustrated and unhappy ASAP. Secondly, your limiting beliefs are on fire, and all your insecurities are growing.
This is certainly not helping but let’s assess what you can do if you are constantly dealing with rejection instead of overwhelming yourself and overthink that process.
- Assess your CV and Cover Letter: It is essential to continually review and reflect on those two documents.
- Am I tailoring my CV for each job post with the relevant info?
- Do I highlight achievements and transferable skills?
- Have I used my pitch on my cover letters?
- Ask for detailed feedback every time you get rejected: Our confidence and expectations drop when we interviewed and received the news that we were not hired. But instead of letting ourselves go with those feelings. Let use this as a way to improve for the next. Ask for feedback. Whatever it is, it can be helpful to you.
- Have a log of feedback to design an improvement plan: It is always helpful to record the jobs we apply for, the company’s if we got selected for an interview. Like that, we can really analyse our outcomes and how we are doing all the time. And if we see that we are getting most of the replies as rejections. Then Assess, and design a different strategy.
- Analyse the positions you are applying for. Are you really the right fit?: When we want to leave our current job, we are in a hurry most of the time! And this is the most significant error that all of us have made at least once. So we apply for everything. Again, we need to apply for a job that suited us. Not make us fit in every job post, because this won’t work. If we don’t meet the criteria, that is another strategy, long term.
- Don’t put all eggs in one basket: This is a mistake that many of my clients make. When they get an interview, they stop applying. Until you get hired, you keep sending applications. The more jobs you apply for, the more chances of choosing you have.
- Don’t take it personally: It is no need to punish yourself and blame yourself. It is not personal. A minimal % of not getting the job if you do things correctly is your fault. The reasons to do not get it:
- Too many applications and never got to yours.
- They already have someone in mind, but by law, they need to do interviews.
- Someone with connections got the job.
- Last-minute, they hire someone internally.
- Don’t get defensive and burn bridges: When they call or email you to tell you that they hire another candidate. Don’t be rude or show frustration. It is not your last shot with the company, more opportunities can arise, and they will already know you. Ask for feedback and thank them for the chance of the interview.
- You are not the only one: This is not only happening to you. A lot of people is in the same situation. And you need to analyse and assess yourself to see if you are doing everything you can instead of going downhill and get disappointed.
- Get Help with a Career Change Coach: This is not a better way to go through this process. A professional who can guide you and help you with the perfect action plan for your situation. Can hold your hand and help you deal with the downs of the process.
- If it’s not mean to be, it is because something better awaits: Last but not least. Rejection is redirection, to the right place, to what is for us. Because what is for us never will be taken from us.
Add to myWE:
