You feel incomplete without a partner

As a love addict, you'll find that you cannot be single for long periods of time. You constantly need a partner.

Dumping partners once the novelty has worn off

Like with every relationship, the initial and early stages are when it's at its best. At this stage, it's easy for you to get carried away and swept off your feet.

However, when this stage bypasses, you find that you can no longer continue with the relationship. So, you break it off in order to search for another partner.

Picking partners that are not suitable or compatible with you

Let's face it, each and every individual has their own criteria for choosing partners. You might want someone with a certain personality or someone who shares the same interests as you. However, if you're a love addict, you might find yourself with partners with whom you are not compatible with and you make the wrong choices.

Depending on a partner to make you feel good

Like with drugs and alcohol, the addict uses it to make himself feel good. With love addicts, love and partners are used to make themselves feel better. So, if you find yourself relying completely on your partner for happiness, this is a major sign of love addiction.

Constantly on the hunt for "the one"

We all long to find our soulmate and "the one". However, this is just a stepping stone for most. A love addict will strive to find this and is constantly and tirelessly searching for "the one".

Neglecting work, family, etc

When you find a new partner, you'll find yourself neglecting other parts of your life in order to please this person. So, you might end up not going to work, no longer being there for your family, not doing the things you once enjoyed just to please your new partner.

Falling in and out of love quickly

Even though love can happen quickly for some, it usually takes time to deepen and develop. Love addicts will find themselves falling in love very quickly and so deeply that it feels like real love and it's practically convincing.

Love addicts can also fall out of love very quickly. For people who are genuinely in love and if a breakup happens, it would take time to heal.

You idealize your partner at first

For love addicts, it's common for you to idealize your partners at first but once the relationship has reached its expiry date, you'll then start to undermine and devalue the person. Whereas in a real love relationship, you'd be aware of your partner's strengths and weaknesses and you accept them.

Conclusion

Getting over a love addiction may not be easy but it's not impossible. It's time to start prioritizing and putting yourself first! You need to find out what makes you happy rather than love and relationships.

Now is the time to start investing in yourself. You can read relationship articles that were written by professionals on WikiExpert and that others found helpful and also follow the topic to stay up-to-date.
