I live in community eco-housing in Bristol (UK) with my wife and children, Willow (6) & Alby (4). We run a group homeschool using a ‘self-directed’ model which marries Montessori tools with ALC (Agile Learning) structure I have a background in music / singer-songwriting and have written over 300 songs :) All my time and energy now goes, broadly speaking, into ‘alternative education’ initiatives, like the homeschool, and the broad empowerment of teenagers through tutoring and mentoring. My wife and I still sing and play music together every weekend :) I love to be with children of all ages, and young adults; I also love to play football, camp and surf.

It is all about the relationship, so my primary wishes are to: Identify the genuine and personal motivations in each student Get to know the real them (without interference from home or school cultures) Demonstrate natural understanding, and complete support Form a shared bond of simple trust and commitment Develop a warm, authentic and focussed working relationship as the basis for optimal study & results My mission with each student I take on is to empower in them their own natural drives to learn, and do well, in an easeful and enjoyable way. I am very good at clearing away the typical underlying obstacles - resistance (to parents or teachers), doubt (in their own ability), laziness & procrastination, fear of failure, anxiety... I also know the course content inside-out and how most students limit themselves. In English it is almost always poor essay-writing technique and in Maths, lack of composure - not reading the question properly, mistakes in the working, rushing etc
The author, a specialist in teaching essay -writing technique to teenagers preparing for GCSE English exams, explores the immense power in training up simple, natural restfulness in students newly faced with this most daunting of academic tasks...
