As this year flies past us, our lives are getting busier and busier as each minute passes. When we become overwhelmed with the tasks, goals and other daily concerns, our bodies and minds begin to stress over where to find all the time to get everything done. Stress is a normal part of our lives, it can either motivate us to get things done or it can cause havoc and make you feel unable to carry on. The way we react to stress is the key to successfully getting through each day.

However, this is easier said than done. Constantly worrying about a problem can lead to both serious mental and physical health issues. We may all know at least one person who has struggled when it came to managing their financial situation. Saying this though, just because you find yourself in this position now, it doesn’t mean you can’t resolve it. As well as finances, Family problems, Work demands, Traumatic Events, Illness are among the top stressors that many people face daily. Unfortunately, most people turn to comfort eating, drinking, excessive caffeine consumption, working long hours to try and find a solution to some of the problems they are facing. These unhealthy habits, if left unchecked can develop into long-term chronic anxiety or depression which will be much harder to get rid of. There are also alternative methods to help us unwind.

Of course, we need to accept that stress is something that we will come into contact at some point in our lives. Stress is something we cannot avoid, no matter how hard we try. However, the way we deal with stress can make all the difference. Dealing with stress in a healthy manner requires us to implement some self-care strategies into our daily routines, to make sure that we can get the best out of stress!

Here are just a few ways you can include some self-care love in your life daily:

1. Avoid comfort eating at all costs

Once again, it is easier said than done. When we are overwhelmed and stressed out, we as human beings tend to try and comfort ourselves by eating the unhealthy foods which will only make us feel worse afterward. Keeping a food journal and becoming more aware of what we eat and when we eat it will help us become more aware of our eating habits when things get rough. Instead of grabbing the nearest chocolate bar, swop it for some healthy snacks that will not only boost your energy but make you feel much better afterward. Discover 5 beautiful ways berries can boost your mental and physical health.

2. Get your blood pumping.

We know that exercise is a very important aspect of keeping our bodies and minds healthy, but what some don’t realise is it does not have to be a strenuous exercise that gets your blood pumping and oxygen flowing through your body. If you don’t have time to go to the gym, a small walk around the block or some yoga poses before you start your working day – these things will not only make you feel healthier, but it will help you emotionally as well.

3. Take a break from social media.

We already have busy, demanding lifestyles and when we finally get a break during the day we turn to social media. Although social media can be a great way to stay connected to friends, family and the daily trends, it bombards us with messages, bad news, and updates that we don’t need to add to our already stressful lives. Schedule a certain amount of time a day to catch up with what is happening, when that time is over, unplug and unwind.

4. A Healthy Work-Life Balance.

If you are constantly working extra hours to meet the pile of deadlines in front of you, you need to learn to set limits for yourself. The beauty of technology is that often it allows us to continue working even when we are not at our desks. You also need to learn how to set healthy boundaries, delegate a bit more and to be more open with your managers/bosses when it comes to your workload. Proper time management and goal setting are also very important here to help you avoid burning out or getting sick. A very important aspect of a healthy work-life balance is knowing when to call it a day and to switch off completely.

5. Get your Priorities sorted.

Do you ever get that feeling when you look at your list of tasks that you just have TOO much to do? Take the time to work out which ones can be delegated or eliminated. Sometimes when we allow stress to take over, we create unnecessary tasks for ourselves which only adds unwanted pressure to our already busy lifestyles. Keep the ones that are most important to you, delegate some others and delete the time wasters.

6. Schedule some “Me-Time”

An important aspect, which often gets overlooked when we are busy scheduling our lives, it to put a little bit of time in each day which is dedicated purely to you. Our bodies and minds need time to catch up and take note of what is happening around you. This doesn’t have to be a lot of time during the day, but a small break where you can enjoy the sunset with a hot cup of zingy ginger tea, or a warm relaxing bath can make managing daily life a little bit easier.

7. Bring out the creative side in you

Even the most logical and technical person has a creative side. Exercising our creative muscles is not only enjoyable but can also help you find new solutions to any problems you may be experiencing in your life. Try a new hobby or activity that makes you use your hands instead of technology.

As I said earlier, stress is something you cannot hide from, and whether you like it or not you have to deal with it at some point. Instead of wasting your precious time worrying about the pressures that we face, you can view any challenge that is set before you as an opportunity to learn and to grow. If you are struggling to find a way to help you deal with stress a bit better, book an initial discovery consultation where I will personally help you get your body and mind to a place where you will be able to deal with stress properly.
