Self-care is activating your best self by looking after your mind, body and spirit. They're choices you make to improve your emotional, mental and physical state, allowing you to be better and aim higher.
More than ever during the pendemic, self care is so important. Staying indoors can be stressful and you can get trapped in your thoughts. Anxiety will worsen and you will feel like there is no escape. There are however, things you can do to eliminate those thoughts allowing you to make the most of your time in isolation.
With more time on our hands, it is a great opportunity to set yourself a self-care plan. What days you want to look after yourself, maybe every morning or evening, once a week, twice a week? Whatever you choose, stick to it and reap the benefits of looking after yourself.
Do you need to ''Self-care?''
If you feel unmotivated or low on energy, then you most likely have a drainer. It can be stress, worry or overwhelm. All these emotions can prevent you from accomplishing positive things and taking care of you.

Self care doesn’t have to be a big change, It can be as little as reading a book you wanted to read, sharing your feelings in a personal diary or cooking a meal from scratch for those you’re isolating with. Here are a few daily self-care routines you can develop:
Healthy Sleep Routine
Good amounts of sleep are essential for your mental health (at least 7-8 hours). Try going to bed and waking up at the same time daily. Upon waking up, set an intention for the day.
Eat Healthier
Try adopting a healthier diet. Simple changes such as drinking more water, eating more fruits or vegetables definitely helps. They also build your immune system which is definitely needed in these times.
Take regular breaks if you are working from home
Time can go really fast when you’re engrossed in work. Just try not to sit at your computer all day. Go for a quick stroll (leaving your phone behind) or clear your mind by Meditating for 10 minutes.
Activities that make you happy
Do at least one activity daily that brings you joy. It can be reading, watching your favourite TV show, cooking or baking, drawing/painting, cleaning or in my case, organising something!
Laugh More!
Laughing relaxes the body, boosts immune system and triggers endorphins, so laugh whenever you can!
Connect with your loved ones
We’re lucky to live in a world where technology makes it easy to speak to our loved ones easily over text, video or telephone calls. Check in on your them regularly, it’s nice to know that someone is thinking about you. Speaking to someone you hold dear can also boost your mood.
Just Be Kind!
It’s the easiest thing you can do. Something as simple as smiling at someone or staying quiet/not posting that comment on social media if it isn’t nice. If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all. I believe saying or doing negative things creates a ripple of negative energy which is projected and spread into the universe. I am a strong believer that what you say or do, impacts your life and those around you.
