So you have come to the decision to work with an Online Counselor or Life Coach – but how do you know which one to choose? To make that decision, you must first understand the difference between Coaching and Counseling.

Coaching vs Counseling – what’s the difference?

While most of us have heard of Life Coaching, we still often wonder, what does a Life Coach actually do? A Life Coach’s main objective is to help clients improve their lives by motivating and guiding them to reach their goals. They want to help you build confidence and improve the skills you already have to create a new life path.

In short, they are more focused on the future and how to prepare you for success. Life Coaches are trained to listen and often have certifications through programs such as the International Coaching Federation. However, there are no specific degree or state licensing requirements.

On the other hand, Counseling is a more regulated profession that requires a degree and state licensure. Counselors tend to focus more on working through past events and experiences in order to move forward. They want to analyze deeper emotional and mental health issues and have a more traditional doctor-patient relationship with their clients.

When should you choose a Life Coach?

You should consider Online Coaching if you want to change your life path or accomplish a specific goal. For example, if you are looking for a new career path or need help improving your time management skills, Online Life Coaching would be ideal. An Online Life Coach can help you make an action plan to step out of your comfort zone and take control of your life and goals.

When should you choose a Counselor?

Online Counseling may be right for you if you have experienced an emotionally traumatic event or need to work through past events in order to improve your mental health. An Online Counselor can help you work through a divorce or the loss of a loved one. In addition, if you are feeling depressed or unwell, you should seek the help of an Online Counselor.

At the end of the day, choosing an Online Counselor or Life Coach is a personal decision based on your individual situation. If you are looking for professional guidance on how to reach specific goals and improve performance, an Online Life Coach may be for you. If you are seeking help improving mental health and working through emotional trauma, you should choose an Online Counselor. Regardless of which route you take, there are convenient and reliable options for both Online Counseling and Online Coaching!
