In this article, we will explain how to end a relationship peacefully. So, you've decided to end your relationship with your partner and you probably have your reasons for doing this.

However, breaking a relationship isn't always easy. Especially when you've been with your partner for a long time. It's a heartbreaking thing to go through.

Not all relationships survive and there comes a time when you might have to pull the plug for your own happiness and even your partner's. The worst part is that it's never pain-free and neither is there a "best way" to do it but no matter what your reasons might be, you can still end your relationship peacefully.

We also share articles written by registered professionals on WikiExpert, that others, just like you, found helpful.

Is it Time to End Your Relationship?

There are several signs that indicate it's time to end your relationship. For example, when you start feeling bored, there are trust issues and you can no longer imagine a future together. This list can go on.

Ultimately, it's up to you to decide whether your relationship is worth continuing or not. This requires careful thought and you figure out whether it would be best to put an end to it or work things out.

Do and Don'ts When it Comes to Breakups

Do's and don'ts when it comes to breakups

Be Respectful

If you want your breakup to go smoothly, then you should be polite. You can be firm and assertive but not disrespectful. By being harsh, you'll end up hurting your partner even more.

Breakup in Person

Let's face it, no one wants to get dumped over a text message. Doing it face-to-face allows you to be more honest and it'll give you both closure. Remember, that you once loved your partner and maybe you still have feelings, so be considerate.

When your life takes an unexpected turn, here's how you can respond and deal with it. Read this article by Tony Fahkry, Online Life Coach.

Show Sympathy

Being dumped is a huge blow for anyone. So, the best thing to do is show sympathy and be patient when you're trying to end your relationship. Depending on your situation, you can give your partner some positive things about the time you had together. We are not saying walk down memory lane. However, you can show sympathy by being kind.

Be Honest

You've probably heard the saying, "honesty is the best policy" and this is true. You should not hold anything back from your partner. Be completely truthful as to why you wish to end things. But remember to also be respectful in the process.

Give Yourself Time to Heal

Both you and your partner will be heartbroken after the breakup. Therefore, no matter how difficult it might have been for you, you need to allow yourself to heal.

Spend time with your friends and family. Do things you enjoy and most importantly, don't be hard on yourself. Also, don't jump into rebound relationships.

Avoid Shaming and Blaming

Even if it is your partner's fault for wanting to break up, if you want things to go smoothly, then you cannot be screaming across the room naming, shaming and blaming. This will only lead to more problems.

Don't Keep Putting it Off

If it is tough for you to, naturally, you will procrastinate. However, the longer you keep putting it on hold, you will feel unhappy and maybe even your partner as well. There is never a right time, so the best thing to do is get it done.

Don't Makeup After the Breakup

If you feel that there is hope for your relationship and that you can save it, then rather work towards it. Or even get some space from your partner. If you're going to make up after your breakup, then it's pointless going through all of this.

Don't Stalk Your Ex

This is tempting for most but stalking your ex on social media, etc, will only make it more difficult for you to heal. Keeping track of your ex's life will hinder you from moving forward.

WikiExpert Suggestion

It is essential to not keep yourself stuck in your past relationships, as it is not your future. Read this article by Rita Hurry, Online Life Coach.

Don't Broadcast it Over Social Media

Yes, breakups are difficult and you want to express yourself but there is no need to let everybody know that you're hurting, apart from those who are near and dear to you.
