1. What are my characteristics?

How you deal with others as a leader naturally depends very much on your own character. Therefore, try to discover in the first place what your dominant character traits are and how they express themselves in the workplace or among friends and family. Find out how your colleagues, employees, friends and family describe you. Consider your qualities that determine how you make decisions, deal with stress, or take action. Are you impulsive, indecisive, thoughtful, determined?
2. Which values ??do I find important?
In addition to your character, the values ??you adhere to also play a major role in motivating your choices. They largely determine the why of your actions and your way of thinking. For other people, including your colleagues or employees, it plays a role in how they view you. If their values ??align with yours, they will respect you more quickly. If they have difficulty understanding your values, they are more likely to distrust you. Some examples of values ??that play a role in your leadership style are respect, authenticity and integrity.
3. What are my weaknesses?
Many leaders mainly lead from their strengths, but forget to acknowledge their own weaknesses. A good leader also knows his weaknesses and understands how they can influence his leadership style. With that knowledge you can improve your leadership style and it also helps your team to assess your competences.
4. What feedback do I get from my team?
Despite all personality tests, you will not get a thorough understanding of your leadership style without asking for feedback from the people in your team. They can provide you with insights that are crucial to discovering your leadership style. You can ask them personally to give you feedback, but you can of course also anonymously via a survey so that you are sure that you get honest answers.
5. How do I delegate?
Delegating means letting go and that is not always easy. Especially self-employed people and business managers who have done everything themselves from the very beginning often find it difficult when they have to outsource or delegate tasks. Still, it is an important part of your leadership style. It shows that you have confidence in your team and that you also dare to entrust them with more complex or more challenging tasks. To discover your own leadership style, you can therefore look at the types of tasks that you delegate to your team.
6. Which leaders do I look up to?
As you grow up, you come into contact with many leaders, from your parents and teachers to the leadership of your youth association or your boss during your first job. Think back to the people you remembered and admired as a leader. Which characteristics of them appealed to you and why? Which of these people best matches your leadership style?
After answering these questions, you should have a preliminary understanding i n your own leadership style.
