What we believe about ourselves is not always true because who we are is sometimes different to who we really are.
As people we are so much more than our career, yet many of us allow it to define who we are.
Hilary Clinton once said ‘Don’t confuse having a career with having a life’
It is true that our career will define us in many ways and we cannot doubt that it plays a crucial part in our lives. However, if we are not careful about getting the balance right across our life, we can find that the hours and days are consumed just by work.
Sometimes this can happen unconsciously but it can also be something we strive for, to become the ‘go to’ person, the ‘expert’, the person ‘who gets things done’ or ‘knows someone who can’.
Add to myWE:
An effect of this is that we begin to lose sight of who we really are.
For many people the pandemic will have been both eye-opening and challenging in this respect.
Hopefully one positive will have been an opportunity to kick-back and begin to reconnect with who we really are. The who we were before we began to let our career define who we are now.
Life coaching can help you; identify what you really want in your life, help you to set boundaries and raise standards, improve your work life balance and help you explore your life’s purpose and vision and integrate it into your life path.
As we ease continue on the current roller coaster and enter another month of lockdown, ask yourself ‘Are you prepared to break the mould and define who you are and what you want out of life or continue to be defined?’
