Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way. Viktor E. Frankl
My Story is a story of hope when faced with despair and courage when the odds are stacked up against you. I experienced humiliation, challenges, injustice and the brutality experienced growing up in the apartheid South Africa. I was born into a life of inequality and hardship. I know the first-hand pain inflicted by racism, but also know the joy that comes through the power of forgiveness, Whenever I speak at conferences I tell that I am not a victim for apartheid but a victor. I am not what happened to me, I am becoming. From what I experienced I have learned, "How humiliation CAN MAKE you a Great Leader".
What is it that you have experienced in life that has caused you to be stuck? Some people are stuck with their script that has been handed down to them. They were told that they will never amount to anything and they have accepted that as their future. Maybe you are stuck with Self Limiting Beliefs-or saying to yourself I just cant achieve.
I had to dig deep and challenge the story that was handed down to me. I faced the brutality of a dehumanising regime. As a result of the adversity and being imprisoned and tortured. I formulated a life philosophy which is
Face it- adversity and this made me resilient and have a Can Do mindset.
Embrace it:- embrace the fact that I was born for greatness
Defy it- refused to accept the limitations imposed upon me because of what people said about me and my future.
and Conquer it. - I now live a life abundance with no limitations and the ONLY limitation I have are the ones that I set for myself. I had to make a choice to believe what the systems said or believed in myself? As that great song goes, You are beautiful, no matter that they say, words can't bring me down."
Sticks and stones may break my bones but silly words won't hurt me. I defied the odds because I believe in myself and I believed that something inside me so strong and I knew I was going to make it.
Maybe you have become your own worst enemy by listening to your inner critic. Do you know that you have greatness within you?
