Taking baby steps is a common antidote when it comes to making progress, but sometimes Giant Steps are actually needed. This type of progress itself can be daunting, when in fact Giant Steps are an opportunity to find hope and encouragement in the pages of the Bible. When life is difficult it is easy to feel overwhelmed and discouraged by your circumstances. But God always has a way of bringing us out of these low places and providing us with strength, peace, and hope no matter the size of the giant.
Similar to Numbers 13:1-2, the 17th and 18th verses are equally simple. Num. 17 And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them, Go southward into the mountain: 18 And see the what's in the land, and the people that dwell there, whether they are strong or weak, few or many... As this ancient scene unfolds with divine simplicity there is no space between what to do and where to go.
The Almighty speaks to Moses, entrusting him with obtaining details about their journey into the Promised Land using handpicked leaders from each tribe. Considering this a reconnaissance mission. Yet, their human hearts waver. With each observation the men drift away from their sacred mission, dancing to the discord of their personal uncertainty and fear.
Aren't our own souls guilty of such diversion? Do you consider your next steps too big to take? What is obvious about your next steps? What is easy to understand but difficult to do? What is so simple to do but so easy to avoid? Perhaps it’s time to skip the baby steps and take a Giant Step.
When life's challenges arrive, we must remain fixed upon the ultimate goal of God in our lives or carry out a similar distraction. Make up your mind to take a Giant Step forward. When Moses and the people are faced with daunting odds, they experience doubt, confusion, and hesitancy. But this is not an unfamiliar situation for us either. So, take a look into the future and see the success that awaits you taking that Giant Step. Then look back from the present and feel the exileration of knowing you did it, and you can do it again, one Giant Step at a time.
